Greetings from Thun. A postcard exhibition
A greeting from afar with a custom view and a handwritten message: Despite the advent of MMS and SMS, the postcard has lost none of its appeal; on the contrary, it brings joy to everyone who receives one. The exhibition explores the theme of the postcard from both artistic and historical perspectives. For one thing, the views on display do not focus on distant locations but instead show the city of Thun from various angles. It becomes clear how Thun presented itself in local history decades ago and how places and areas around the city have changed over the years. From the Marcel Müller Collection at the Thun City Archives, postcards from the last 100 years are arranged thematically, inviting visitors on a brief tour of the most popular subjects of Thun postcards. Spanning the entire extension is also the artwork Panorama (Mountains) (2016) by Martin Möll; a fictional mountain landscape composed of approximately 600 postcards strung together, which, through its format, draws a contemporary connection to Marquard Wochers’ Panorama, now considered the world’s oldest surviving panoramic painting.
